See how focused the camera man is in the image above? He isn’t “just” focused, he’s laser focused. His goal is to take a perfect camera shot, and you could say he’s doing a good job of it.

In fact, he’s so focused on taking a great picture, he probably isn’t aware of what’s happening around him. This is what entrepreneur Rodger Halmilton refers to as flow.


7 More Tips to Stay Laser Focused on Your Goals

Wouldn’t it be great if you could be that focused?

How would you like to be so focused on your goals, not even distractions are able to get in the way? Imagine how much more you could get done within any given day.

Well, you can do exactly that, and these 7 steps will show you how to become fully focused on your goals!


1. Write down your goals twice a day

“If you’re not writing your goals down everyday, you don’t have a goal, you have a wish.” – Grant Cardone

At one point I never used to write down my goals on a daily basis. But since I’ve been writing down my goals everyday, my focus is as sharp as a samurai sword.

Especially since I’ve started writing down my goals not once, but twice a day. Once in the morning and once before I go to bed.

Whether you do it once or twice a day, be sure to write your goals down everyday. It really does help keep you focused on your goals.


2. Keep your goals within reach

We’ve all got important things to do everyday, right? But no matter what it is you’re doing, keep your goals within reach. What do I mean by this?

If you write your goals down on a note pad, take it with you. Or if you write your goals down in an App like Evernote, you’ll be able to re read ’em, check ’em, or edit your goals if necessary.

You want your goals at the top of your mind!


3. State your goals on a daily basis

I take it you know what affirmations are, right? Well that’s what I mean by state your goals. You want to repeat your goals to yourself to keep you focused on them through out the day.

As long as you’re not shouting them out loud while you’re in public…. Just kidding. But seriously, this has been helpful for me.


4. Write down what you’re willing to give up

“What am I willing to give up? What do you mean?”, you might ask. The answer is simple. To achieve and stay focused on your goals, are you willing to give up…

  • Watching too much TV?
  • Aimlessly browsing the internet?
  • Bad habits?
  • An extra hour of your time per day?
  • Allowing notifications to distract you?
  • A portion of your income?
  • Speaking on the phone too often?
  • “If you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done before.” – Thomas Jefferson

    And maybe for you, that thing you’ve yet to do may be giving up a bad habit or something similar. Whatever it is, you’ve got to figure it out then commit.


    5. Talk about your goals with like minded people

    This could be a family member, a friend, a business partner, or someone you trust. Maybe even an associate within your industry.

    When you talk to people of a similar mind and similar goals, it gets you pumped up and motivated to take action. You leave the conversation feeling excited, energetic, enthusiastic, optimistic and fired up to accomplish big things.

    This is a great way to keep you focused on your goals, and to push you to take action and do whatever it takes to achieve them!


    6. Create and review your plan of action

    “If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.” – Jim Rohn

    This is a classic Jim Rohn quote, and there’s so much truth to what he says. If you don’t plan on what you’re going to do on any given day, you’ll end up fitting into somebody else’s plan. You don’t want to be falling into somebody else’s plan. You need your own!

    So how do you do it? Well, the best way is to break it down into small steps. For example, If your goal is to learn how to speak Spanish within 6 months, your plan might look like this:

  • Buy books on how to speak Spanish and read 1 chapter per day.
  • Record what you’ve learned via voice recording software for reference.
  • Write down what you’ve learned at the end of each day.
  • Follow a podcast on how to speak Spanish.
  • Befriend Spanish people online or offline.
  • Of course, this is just an example. But no matter what your goals are, you need an action plan. And you need practical steps on how to make that goal a reality.


    7. Consistently take action

    This goes back to what I said earlier about flow. When you’re consistently taking action to achieve your goals, you’re laser focused. And nothing can stand in your way.

    Just think about it for a second. Think back to a time when you’ve taken massive amounts of action. Were you that focused you weren’t even aware of what time or day it is?

    That’s the type of action I’m talking about. And If you consistently take action like this everyday, focus will be the least of your problems. The more action you take, the harder it is to be distracted or knocked off course.

    A good example of this is the American rapper DMX. After Obama was elected as president, DMX was asked If he heard the news.

    And in response he said something similar to – “Obama? Who is that”. He was taking so much action and was so focused on his career, he wasn’t even aware of the outside world.

    So out of all these 7 steps on how to stay laser focused, number 7 is probably the most important.
