1.2 Exclusive Resorts
For the grand finale of luxurious accommodations, welcome to Exclusive Resorts!
This website is a private, members-only marketplace for accessing the best vacation rentals all over the world.
“The World’s Elite Private Vacation Club”
This Vacation Club offers multi-million-dollar properties in some of the world’s most diverse and secluded places. Each residence to choose from has the best amenities, rooms, and views that are only catered to the members that sign up for this website.
The club also makes it easier for travelers to connect with one another on travel advice and insight when looking at the type of accommodation that they are interested in.
The cost to join the membership does begin at $150,000, so make sure this is the perfect option for you.
However, the website does say that the price per property does not get affected by peak seasons or has changing rates per night, so for some millionaires, this might be the most cost-effective.
There is many more ways to find beautiful and unique resorts. Check out these extraordinary all-inclusive resorts.
The phrase “timeshare” may be confusing for some people, but don’t be scared to look at this website.
For you love spontaneous trips to luxurious resorts, this might be the best option for you.
SellMyTimeshareNow is a marketplace for timeshare owners to actually rent out their units to people looking for accommodations like villas, chalets, to actual hotels.
For the user, this means that it is not a huge expense to get the spacious and glamourous space you want.
Sometimes, users can even get a great deal, like when it usually costs $700/night on your ideal place to stay, but it’s actually $100/night when renting out someone’s timeshare.
1.4 Third Home
If you’re tired of seeing an accommodation looking amazing on your phone, but when you’re actually there it does not live up to the expectation, this website will save you the trouble.
Third Home is a marketplace that specializes in high-end rental properties. Your entire search on their website will feature mansions, penthouses, and villas from all over the world.
Even better, Third Home makes sure that their luxury properties live up to the hype, meaning that each house must be over $500k, not be the owner’s primary home, and present luxurious furnishings to be on their website.
It means that the website does all the hard work for you, so you don’t have to worry about some properties cat-fishing you.
This vacation marketplace originally started for families that did not want to stay in hotels. Now they feature accommodations all over the world.
If you want to stay at a villa, apartments, houses, or penthouses in the best of places, check this website out.
RentaVilla treats its users like they are part of the family. They carefully inspect each property, making sure that the houses are accurately represented. They even have local representatives in their top locations so that users can ask for car rentals, maid services, or general suggestions from someone that knows the area and can do it fast.
So, if you need a vacation from your stressful job, or want another excuse to hop on a plane to Spain, look here first!

This website is another excellent option for luxury-travelers.
With their parent organization being HomeAway, this website is fully-equipped with the best of the best type of properties.
Luxury Rentals features a trending section with a lot of options in the United States for those that want a quick getaway.
They even have a curated selection of properties to make you feel right at home in another part of the world. And some rentals have hot tubs overlooking oceans or mountains, and others have charming cabins next to your ski resort.

Update: This website seems to be offline at the moment.
This website has over 600,000 properties across 114 countries and should be one of your top searches when looking for a vacation rental.
VILLASdirect only showcase professionally managed properties and never list individually let out properties. This means that you will still experience the type of service you will get at a hotel but from a more secluded and personalized kind of accommodation.
Plus, there’s no booking fee!
These luxury villas are in the most beautiful of locations and are placed all over the world for different kinds of trips you want to take. From furnished beach houses to ski chalets, the website features unique properties for every type of traveler.
From Mallorca to Crete, to Gallipoli Island, the choices are endless!
2. Mid-Range Travelers
So, you’re the type of traveler that doesn’t have the tightest budget but also looks for affordable locations with reasonable pricing.
This is true for a lot of people, and tons of websites have listings just for you!
These websites usually offer deals, reasonable prices, and also has a couple of perks here and there. It means that it’s that much easier to book time off and go on an adventure.
And because this rings true for a lot of people, this list has the most options in this article.
Booking.com is a go-to for a lot of travelers, so it’s no surprise that it’s on this list!
There are so many options to choose from when looking through this website. Booking.com lists just about every type of accommodation imaginable.
Think of hotels, apartments, B&B’s, and every other type of vacation rental out there.
This allows users to look through every type of lodging and finding the right pick for them. With their filtering option, it makes it easier to condense your search to the type of lodging you are looking for.
Plus, there is no service fee when using their site!
For the curious one, I have written posts on following destinations using Booking.com
If you can’t find anything on the first website, you’re probably heading over to Expedia.com
Expedia.com is another website giant when looking for just about anything. For this purpose, we are looking at how they showcase accommodations for their users.
You can skip filtering your searches for specifically vacation rentals as they have a search page devoted to this type of accommodations.
However, if you do prefer to use the map view when searching for vacation rentals, Expedia does not have that available. But if that doesn’t bother you, keep scrolling.
Once you find a rental property that looks good, you will find accurate pictures, amenities, policies, and reviews to give you the perfect insight on whether or not this is the right fit.
When looking through, however, there does not seem like there’s a way to contact the owner of the property you like, in case you have further questions. And for some, it might bother you not to know the total price until you click on reserve.
A plus is that it has filters for things like “Business-friendly” and “Family-friendly” for the type of listings that work the best for you.
HometoGo is another mega-giant in the vacation rental game. This means that this could be your one-stop-shop when looking for the ideal property for you.
It has a great user-interface, with organized listings and a quick view to make it easier to see if this might be of interest to you or a map that shows you where your ideal property is located.
Similar to Airbnb, each listing features user reviews and the amenities in an easy format for every type of user. It even has a price filter to show you the properties in your range!
Some other filters can be an “instant booking” option, location, amenities, and practically anything else you need when booking a vacation rental.
This website has thousands of short-term rentals that make it easier for people to find accommodation without breaking the bank.
Here comes another giant!
VRBO, which stands for “vacation rentals by owner,” is extremely similar to Airbnb and is probably one of their biggest competitions.
VRBO also has a huge variety of filters, I mean they must have thought about everything.
Some of their filters include features, amenities, neighborhoods, location types, bedrooms, and more! If you are a picky traveler, or just know what you like, these filters can come in handy when picking the perfect place to stay.
Tripping is a good option for those that want to look for more than just the typical apartment or house when searching for rental properties.
This website not only shows apartments and homes but hotels and hostels to make sure their users have all the options that work for their price point or preferred type of lodging.
Tripping also has a great map view in their main results page, making it easier for travelers to see how close vacation rentals can be to airports, train stations, or their preferred city attraction.
To trim your search even further, the website allows users to toggle between “per night” and “per stay” types of pricing and has the number of bedrooms and more filter options to make sure users know exactly what they are getting on this website.
This website features 300,000 rentals across 11,000 cities and is owned by TripAdvisor.
If you have never heard of Flipkey, then you should know! It features a lot of great options for you and your travel needs.
Like other alternatives to Airbnb, it does not have a “shared rooms” option and only lists private rooms or the entire property, but some users would prefer that.
What makes it stand out from the rest is that it has a filter option for the types of properties you are looking for.
Do you want to bring your dog along for the trip, check out their pet-friendly properties? They even have properties filters that only show you waterfront, mountain views, and other types of listing.
Homestay is a great option for people that want to stay with their hosts.
This type of website harnesses in on the travel experience. Every user can find accommodations in areas around the world and have a host there to guide them along the way.
If you’re the type of traveler that cares strongly about having a local experience, Homestay is an excellent option for you. Your hosts are there to answer all of your questions and show you around their city.
If you want to find the perfect dinner spot, just knock on their bedroom door and get a local’s perspective.
Oh, and did I mention that every property has breakfast included, how awesome!
Wimdu has over 350,000 vacation properties to choose from.
When booking with Wimdu, you never have to worry about booking overcharged properties as they make sure their prices are reasonable for every type of traveler.
Because of their vast listings, travelers can find a property in every type of location they are looking at.
The website has everything that suits everyone’s needs. If you’re looking for a tiny cottage in a winter wonderland or a private villa with a pool, check Wimdu out!
2.9 Red Awning
Red Awning recently used to be PerfectPlaces.com until they rebranded.
This website has over 75,000 properties in over 100 countries around the world. When searching for accommodations, the site even has both nightly and weekly rates to show you if it’s more cost-effective to stay a little bit longer.
Who doesn’t love a good excuse to stay on vacation?
To add on, the marketplace also doesn’t charge for service or travelers’ fee, saving people more money when exploring the world.
Even though they have properties worldwide, most of their listings are European-based. So, if you are trying to book a European trip, this website will have a lot of options for you!
HotelsCombined is unlike any other vacation rental site!
Instead of being an individual booking site, it compares all the other booking sites like booking.com, Expedia, Agoda, and more so it can find you the best price between the competitors.
It does focus mostly on hotels, but you will find apartments and other accommodations here and there.
This website can compare prices worldwide, making it a great resource when checking if that apartment price is excellent or if there’s another one that suits you much better.
Want to go on a safari or explore exotic lands in general, Sleepout should be your resource when picking accommodations.
The website has properties listed throughout Africa, the Indian Ocean Islands, and the Middle East. This makes it easier for people to find affordable locations in exotic lands that might be otherwise expensive when looking at hotel prices.
The website has a listing for every type of property. Think of beach huts or tree houses.
Even for property owners, its free to list your place, and you only get charged a small fee with each successful booking.
This is definitely a great resource when planning your trip to the other side of the world.
2.12 TripAdvisor Rentals
If you like having a website that has both vacation rentals and reviews and just about everything else you’d like to know for vacation, ta-da, this is it!
Everyone with WiFi and a computer has used TripAdvisor before, but most don’t think to use it for actual vacation rentals.
This website has a section devoted to apartment rentals that like to combine a lot of options from other vacation rental sites into one easy search. It gathers listings from companies like Flipkey, HouseTrip, and so on so that it’s all there in one easy search.
With over one million properties in 190 countries, there is a ton of choices to choose from.
Oh, and the best reviews you could ever ask for.
This vacation rental website is a part of Homeaway and VRBO, so there’s no shortage of listings!
What makes it different is that they are primarily focused on options across the United States. Because they are so concentrated in one part of the world, it makes it great for people that live within the United States.
Are you trying to do an inexpensive road trip through the south? VacationRentals.com has got you covered with accommodations.
Plus, the website features a price bar to toggle between the minimum and maximum price you are willing to pay for a vacation rental. It even has a map view to show where all of their listings are located within each area you look at.
This website has recently just started within the vacation rental service but should not be overlooked.
Even though it may not have many options when looking for accommodations, it has a great user-interface to make it easier to use compared to some other sites.
Vacaout.com also has a section devoted to trending destinations. So, if you’re bored at home and want to browse for a quick second on some possible vacation rentals, this feature is perfect just for that! Who knows, you might find the cutest cottage in Colorado and say to yourself, “this could work!”
Bookabach is another great alternative that is very similar to Airbnb’s user-interface.
So, if you are so used to Airbnb’s website, this is a natural transition when looking for the best prices and best accommodations with little to no trouble.
This website has a lot of locations to choose from but is mainly within New Zealand, Europe, and the United States. Even then, it covers a lot of areas around the world.
Not only that, but it also has a map filter for those that like seeing where each accommodation is precisely located.
This website is the perfect blend of a curated search with great pricing.
This international vacation rental website provides property management services for over 24,000 properties. They have listings from the United States, Europe, Central and South America, and even South Africa.
One feature that makes them stand out from the rest is that they provide 3D tours of every property listed on VaCasa.
Plus, you don’t have to worry about meeting your host for them to let you inside, each listing has a smart lock and lockboxes that let you straight inside with security and convenience.
If you want to explore cities and countries aimlessly you may have never thought of, VaCasa has got you covered. Near the bottom of their page is a map feature that highlights which states and countries they have a location in.
This visual representation makes it that much easier to explore the world from the comfort of your bed or office chair…. (shhh we won’t tell your boss.)
Innclusive.com offers fantastic homes in beautiful neighborhoods for those creative and extroverted type of person.
If you enjoy fantastic amenities, house events, and living with diverse people, Innclusive.com has got you covered.
This type of website is best for longer stays in areas since each listing comes with different types of roommates from the website’s community.
Sometimes there pricing is even cheaper than what some people pay for rent per month!
That means if you have a nomad-spirit, this could be a great option for you. It’s like living with roommates for as long as you want with no commitments to leases or contracts.
It gives you the freedom to explore all over the world through their website.
And you don’t have to worry. The website spends time vetting each user and potential roommate so that everyone will find the perfect fix and mix of creative and inspiring people.
3. Budget Travelers
Honestly, this is my favorite part of the article!
Although this part is devoted to the cheapest forms of accommodations out there, some of the websites listed between the Mid-Range Traveler and Budget Traveler can be interchangeable.
This is especially true when booking through off-seasons or finding exclusive deals. That’s why it’s so important to look through every possible resource that you can think of. It’s better just to be safe and make sure you book with a trusted price instead of feeling like you got overcharged for accommodation.
However, if you do want a shortlist of websites that are trusted to give you really affordable pricing, I’ve got you covered.
Below are amazing websites that allow everyone the chance to explore the world no matter how big their wallet might be!
Hostelz.com is a great pick when deciding which website to go for when picking your accommodation type.
For anyone wanting to travel the world with a shoe-string budget, hostelz.com should be your first stop.
The site lists almost every single hostel in the world while including their own reviews, and uncensored customer reviews, photos, and it even has a price comparison. This means you can save up to 25% on your accommodation just by going to this site.
If you’re the type of person that needs a cheap but safe location, this website is worth the visit.
Have a look at:
Hostelworld is a pretty well-known site to use when finding cheap accommodations, but it’s also great for group traveling.
One thing worth noting is that Hostelworld has a great app that makes everything a lot easier to use.
Not only do they have a website with an easy way to search for hostels, fill out how many guests, and more, but the app also has several features.
One feature is that there is a lifesaver tool in it. Let’s say you haven’t booked anything yet before you arrive at your location, just click on the “current location” quick search and it will give you the fastest and cheapest accommodations for you and your friends.
Hostelworld has a lifesaver in it too: if you have not booked anything prior and you just arrived, the “current location” quick search will give you the fastest result with one click.
Since a lot of people use it, there are tons of reviews left by previous guests that can inform you of whether or not this is the right fit for your group’s stay.
This website is a great option when wanting a search engine that collects all of the hotels within your chosen area and letting you see all of the deals that they have.
What’s better is that they even have features for different types of travelers. If you’re solo backpacking through Central America, use Agoda for 12% off your entire stay.
They even have sales for couples and families with tabs devoted to the type of party you may or may not be traveling with.
Especially if you’re traveling alone, their map feature allows you to see the area you will be staying in so that you can see if it’s comfortable enough for you.
They also have a “secret deals” tab – but that’s between you and me.
3.4 House Sitting
What’s better than traveling the world? Maybe staying at accommodations for free!
House Sitting takes the impossible and makes it a reality. What happens is that people who own houses sometimes want to leave them and go on trips, sounds like you, right?
Well, they could be gone for a length of time and would rather have someone stay at their house to water their plants or take care of their dog, and that person can be you.
It means that the owners ask other users to stay in their house, usually for the price of nothing! All you have to do is clean the house here and there.
So, the owner gets to go on vacation with the comfort of knowing that their favorite flower won’t be dead by the time they get back, and you get to stay at an apartment or house for free? It sounds like a win-win.
This website has over 230,000 properties all over the world.
Even better, a lot of their options have modern-style and chic rentals for minimal cost.
9flats.com promises you that you won’t break the bank when choosing accommodation through them. What’s great about it is that the website gives you the choice of picking rental properties that have friendly hosts.
No need for a tour guide, just ask your host for a tour of their beloved city.
They have inexpensive options for you and your traveler needs. Prices range depending on your budget, but most of the choices are less than 80 euros.
With over 100,000 vacation rentals across 31 countries, Interhomeusa.com is another great option to explore.
Founded in 1965, the company has been working hard to provide vacation rentals all across the world but are focused mostly on European apartment and vacation homes.
If it’s your first time going to Europe and you have a lot of questions to ask, just ask one of their local service agents that are available 24/7.
When searching, you can stay in accommodations for as little as 60 euros a night! Making this very convenient for the budget traveler you are, especially if you’re splitting it with friends.
Another great option for inexpensive accommodations is Couchsurfing!
If you want to travel and stay in locations for free, then head over to this website.
Couchsurfing allows you to connect with the local people in the area you wish to stay at. Some of the local people may have a spare bed, room, or a couch for you to stay in for free.
When it first began in 2004, it was a pretty scary idea, but now it has flourished to become one of the top choices for budget travelers! The website has over 400,000 hosts with locations all over the world. It’s designed for people who want to have a local experience when exploring.
Typically, the service also expects you to return the favor, which means that you should also be hosting people that wish to come into your hometown.
This is a great option for people that want to build friendships with diverse people all over the world and feel like they can have an excuse to travel to places they may have never thought of!
3.8 Home Exchange
Home Exchange is an excellent option for people wanting to stay, basically, for free!
Have you ever seen that Christmas movie called The Holiday? Basically, two women switch houses for two weeks for absolutely no charge. If you ever thought that was a cool idea, head on over to this website.
You have to sign up and create a profile to join; after all, someone will be staying at your house also. The only expense you have to pay is a membership fee of $150 for the entire year.
Members can two types of exchanges. The Classic Exchange has two families switch houses, but it does not have to be on the same dates.
The other is called Exchange with GuestPoints, where if someone does not wish to stay at your house, but you want to stay at theirs, you can offer them GuestPoints. It’s the website’s form of currency and can be used at any time.
Plus, you earn GuestPoints when hosting other members.
It is very community-oriented, but if you loved a shared experience, this is the site for you.
4. Nature Travelers
For those of you that love the great outdoors, we got the places for you.
Some people may have thought that there weren’t any options besides renting cabins in campgrounds that may charge a hand and a leg for a big spacious cabin for you and your friends. But that’s not the case!
The websites listed below provide great opportunities to go and explore what nature has to offer you without spending tons of money.
If you’re from the city but want to experience the rough outdoors. Or if you love to go camping with your kids but don’t have the money to buy your own trailer, this is the best option for you.
Outdoorsy is an RV rental marketplace that allows you to rent someone’s RV for your nature-type vacation.
You can choose from vintage rides to festival-friendly camp-styles. Their website is very similar to Airbnb, but their twist is the type of accommodation.
On the top right corner, you will see your country’s flag. So, if you want to explore your own backyard, no problem! Just scroll down and see all of the national parks you can visit inside your rented RV.
If you want to see other national parks in different countries, just change the flag to countries like the US, to Germany, to even Australia.
For those of you that don’t know what a yurt is. Me either until I found this website.
A yurt is a portable, round rent that is another version of camping. It is typically used in Central Asia, but this website lets you live like the nomads in other parts of the world.
Yurts.com is divided into two parts.
One, for people that want to build their own customized yurt in their campsite. And two, for those that want to rent it out for an experience of a lifetime.
Just head over to their website and see which yurt is available for your dates.
This website is an online marketplace that helps its users’ book camping experiences that are unique and worthwhile!
Hipcamp is a great website when searching for things like available campsites or specific activities offered, to even landscapes that you would prefer.
Users can even filter their search based on accommodations, like whether they want a tent, RV, or cabin.
With over 300,000 campsites and accommodations to choose from, its a great resource to go to first when looking for nature-type vacations.
Right now, the website is only using campgrounds and national parks within the United States.
Airbnb can sometimes show great accommodations for groups of a large size, but for a hefty price.
If you do not want to feel limited, or worse, give up, then check out the websites listed below.
They are a great accommodation resource for you and your friends to finally go on that vacation you’ve been talking about.
5.1 Home Away
Update: Home Away no longer exists. It is now part of VRBO.com
Another top contender would be Home Away! This is a great option to use thanks to its user-friendly platform and massive varieties of vacation rentals.
Home Away actually is a part of the Expedia Group, and also owns the short-term rental site VRBO.
Their website shows both the map view and the listing with details on the number of bedrooms, bathrooms, square footage, and how many guests can stay.
If one property interests you but you don’t want to bite the bullet just yet, you can easily save it, and it goes to your account’s “like” page for an easier time going to the accommodation that interests you the most.
It also has a filtering option that makes your searches easier to look through. Think of location-type, amenities like pools and Wi-Fi, and more! Even better, Home Away lets you filter the number of bathrooms and the number of bedrooms, which is super useful for families or groups traveling together.
Because of this feature, it’s an ideal website to look through when traveling with a group of any size.
This website is a great choice for those that don’t like meeting the property manager or host for the dreaded key exchange.
Turnkey only lists rental properties that have a door code instead of a key, which means you don’t need to have awkward small-talk with the person who is giving you the keys to their house. For some, this type of interaction is preferred to be avoided.
That’s why this website is perfect for that.
To get the door code, however, you need to download their app. Not only is it free, but the app also features restaurant suggestions, local events happening during your travel days, and a lot more!
For now, Turnkey only has listings in the United States but has plans to move into other countries very soon, so keep your eye out! Even better, a lot of their properties have multiple bedrooms, making it easy for your group to stay in the same location.
5.3 Quest Apartments
If you still think vacation rentals is a scary transition from staying at hotels, this is the perfect middle ground!
Quest Apartments currently lists over 150 apartment hotel properties in Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji.
It’s a bit different than the other sites because of it only listing these types of serviced apartments, but if you like the service from a hotel but the privacy of your own property, this is a great option.
Plus, these apartments are fully equipped with kitchens to cook and living rooms to lounge in when waiting for everyone to wake up.
All of their apartments are spacious and come with enough furniture for everyone to kick back and relax on this vacay.
HouseTrip.com is another large vacation rental website that is perfect for searching for multiple accommodations with specific criteria.
Need an extra bedroom or a futon? This website is the place!
Not only is it a different alternative to hotels, but it also lets you and your group all share one place that makes it feel a lot more inclusive and fun.
Its also a lot cheaper, since these accommodations show the total price per night, it’s easier to pick locations with a bit more amenities, like pools, because it will be divided between you and your friends.
Casamundo has over 700,000 houses and apartments online that are easily bookable from the comfort of your own home.
Not only does it have a great user interface, but it has all types of accommodations that you need for your group.
Do you all need a beach house in Malibu to catch the waves? Use Casamundo to book your next trip!
The website currently has listings for cities in Europe and the United States, but it won’t be surprising to hear about them branching out all over the world.
5.6 Kid & Coe
If your group is your family, and if some of the members are little kids, head over to Kid & Coe for the best vacation rental for your little ones.
Their motto is making travel with children as easy as A, B, C.
The website works closely with the hosts and owners of properties to make sure that each property is child-proof and has baby equipment rental opportunities to make the parents happy as well.
Plus, each property has books and toys waiting at your location so that its easier to entertain your kids when unpacking your suitcases.
This website truly cares about making sure the family has a great vacation with no stress.
Be sure to use this when traveling with your family.
5.7 Wyndham Vacation Rentals
Wyndham Vacation Rentals is an amazing site to use for specific experiences rather than individual properties.
They have clickable links to the types of experiences you and your group may want to do together.
Think about experiences like “Beach Vacations,” or “Snow and Ski,” or even “Theme Park Vacations.”
When a user clicks on a certain experience, they are taken to rental pages to the best options in and around those types of vacations! It makes it easier to find the best property within walking distance or a short drive away.
So far, the website has 10,000 properties and is entirely focused in North America.

Therefore, we will try to keep this article on Airbnb competitors up to date. Keep an eye on it, and bookmark this page. Your travel budget will thank you.
