He is from a middle class family, he has younger brother, Dylan, and a younger paternal half-sister, Olivi (they may have the same father but different mothers).

Efron was born in San Luis Obispo, California. Later he moved to Arroyo Grande, California. His surname basically originated from a Northwest Semitic language of the Afroasiatic language family which is called as Hebrew.

His father David Efron, is an electrical engineer at Diablo and mother Starla Baskett, is an administrative assistant who also works at Diablo Canyon.

Efron began his acting career in television series, he had his first show in the early 2000s as a guest appearance in Firefly as Young Simon Tam, ER as Bobby Neville, Triple Play, The Guardian.
